Resilience Coaching: Preparing for and Bouncing Back from Adversity
Life's Challenges and Finding Strength
Have you ever faced what seemed like an overwhelming crisis in your life? I know I have.
You may even have heard that old wives' tale that bad things come in threes, which friends and family will 'kindly' remind you of just as you're busy struggling with the first thing!
Life will often throw us curveballs: job loss; personal setbacks, like relationship breakups, cheating and divorces; illnesses; accidents; bereavements; business failures or bad financial investments; the list of unexpected tragedies seems endless, and these moments can feel overwhelming and majorly stressful. I have no doubt that life will throw some of these things at us all at some point because we're human beings and that's part of the human experience.
That's the physical reality, but what about our spirits, our minds and our souls?
You see, resilience isn't about avoiding hardship but rather, about learning how to navigate through it and grow stronger.
By living through and surviving some of these things myself, and now having spent thousands of hours studying the subject, I realised that resilience can be taught and that I can coach people through some of these tragedies in such a way that they can turn things around and grow as a result.
As such, I see two main areas, one or both of which may be of great use to you, the reader:
Proactive Reslience Coaching: Preparing for Life's Challenges
and
Resilience Coaching: Bouncing Back from Adversity

Proactive Resilience Coaching: Preparing for Life's Challenges
Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back after adversity—it’s about building the strength, mindset, and skills to face challenges head-on before they arise. Through coaching, you can develop resilience as a proactive life strategy, giving you the tools to adapt, stay grounded, and thrive no matter what comes your way.
By investing in your resilience now, you can:
- Strengthen your ability to handle stress and uncertainty.
- Create a mental toolkit for overcoming obstacles with confidence.
- Cultivate a mindset that helps you stay focused on your goals, even in tough times.
Think of it as creating a safety net for your future self—why wait for adversity to strike when you can be prepared?
Resilience Coaching: Bouncing Back from Adversity
If you haven't given much thought to developing your resilience, and a large part of that is cultivating your self-awareness, self-love and strength of character, then when adversity comes knocking at your door, you may find yourself knocked completely off balance.
There are many disturbances to your usual breezy life that can happen, that may be smaller in consequence and easier to cope with, but if you are confronted with a major event, or even several small ones all at once, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed.
This is where coaching can be a fantastic help - in supporting you to assess your new and current reality, define where you'd like to be, and create actionable steps to bridge the gap.
It's a universal truth that life is often 'unfair'. Bad things happen to good people, just as much as to bad people. The key to surviving them is in the meaning we make of them.
As a Resilience Coach, I help people like you, no matter your unique circumstance, to reframe these experiences, to find meaning, and to channel your energy into what you can control, so you can swim to shore instead of being drowned by what is outside of your control.
Newsflash: It's OK to Ask for Help!
No matter which phase above relates to you - proactively building resilience or reactively responding with resilience, I can help.
I'm an entrepreneur, who prior to that had a ladder-climbing, corporate career. I'm twice divorced, third time, happily married, with five grandchildren so far. I've emigrated from one place to another, built a new life, developed my career, built businesses and employed thousands of people, generating millions of dollars. So you can absolutely bet that I've had my share of challenges to overcome.
One of the toughest things about adversity can be that sense of isolation - that this is only happening to you (and why, because it's not fair), and that you alone have to deal with this issue or set of problems.
That, my friend, is a myth. Chances are that whatever you're going through, so have other people.
Note - I'm reminded of author, Andrew Matthews' example that when you have a sore knee, being told that someone you know has a broken leg, is something you can acknowledge intellectually, but it doesn't make your sore knee stop hurting!
That said, simply having someone to verbally unload on can be a massive help, and not everyone has that opportunity. Plus you don't want to drag your friends down by being 'that person' who constantly whinges about their problems!
The second myth buster is that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength, because it can take courage to admit that you're struggling.
As a Resilience Coach, I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to listen and then work collaboratively on developing strategies and solutions.
By drawing on tools like mindset shift (Neuro-scientific research - aka NLP), emotional regulation techniques, goal-setting frameworks, studies of human behaviour like Stoic Philosophy, and a wealth of lifetime experience in coaching people, I can help you develop habits and self-belief that will empower you to succeed.
There are many stories on my testimonials page that you can refer to, but if you take the next step, which is to simply have a free chat, I'm confident you'll quickly get a feel of whether or not I can be the right coach for you, and also whether I believe I can help you in your unique situation, or refer you to someone who can.
Meanwhile if you don't yet feel ready, you can follow me here or on social media, or through my books and blogs. Then message me if you feel comfortable. Don't just stay stuck and unhappy! (Please)
