"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts. Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. Waste no more time arguing about what a good man (or woman, or LGBTQ person) should be. Be one."

~ Marcus Aurelius

Your philosophy and mindset development will be the greatest determining factors in the level of success you achieve in your life in general and in any undertaking you attempt.

Let's explore the types of issues that confronted many of my clients when I started working with them, and don't worry if your situation seems different - everyone deals with a different set of circumstances and you are a unique individual.

Philosophy

When I talk about your philosophy, I'm not just referring to a bunch of Greek or Roman guys sitting in a courtyard debating the meaning of life. I'm talking about the way YOU see, understand and experience the world.

You see, everyone has their own, unique way of explaining this crazy world and how they fit into it - in other words, what makes sense to you.

The author, James Allen, in his book 'As a Man Thinketh' said, “All that man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts. His suffering and happiness are evolved from within. As he thinks, so he is. As he continues to think, so he remains.”

I'm a great fan of the Roman Emperor and philosopher, Marcus Aurelius, whose two, probably most famous, maxims were:

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."

and

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

So, the starting point to understanding why you are in the situation you find yourself in today, is to begin by examining what you think and why you think it.

In his book, 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' , author Stephen Covey distinguishes principles and values. Covey sees principles as external natural laws, while values remain internal and subjective. He says that values govern people's behavior, while principles ultimately determine the consequences.

Whether you are seeking solutions to problems in your life, seeking self-improvement, or you want to develop your career, improve your relationships, or grow your business, what you think and why you think it are fundamental things to explore and understand. As I work with clients, these are things we explore together because very often we find that the person stopping you from achieving everything you desire, is often actually YOU!

Don't worry though - I'm not a shrink, so you don't need to spill all your darkest secrets, unless there is something you want to offload, but I AM here to help within the scope of my professional boundaries. Our work together is confidential, aside from what you may be happy to divulge for testimonial purposes, because I build my practice mostly through word of mouth and reputation. My aim is to create and hold a safe space for you, so you can clearly define what you want, and what may be in the way of that, then construct a strategic plan for you to get it, and work with you to hold you accountable to follow through on that plan. In short, based on all my years of training and studies, and drawing on my real life experience, I have developed proven, effective methods, such as 'The Inman System', which means I can help you achieve your potential to the extent that you are willing to strive for it.

My 'Inman System' is a conceptual framework that helps you develop a confident mindset and marketing so you can simplify achieving your life goals and success

Creating in Your Mind

Everything we make happen in life begins with a thought. We create in our minds an idea, a concept, or a possibility, and once that seed has been planted, it is our mindset that carries us through to its creation.

The device that you are using to read this page was once just an idea in someone's mind.

There's an old, anonymous saying, "If you think you can, you will; if you think you can't, you won't!"

The reason so many people have become champions at sport, been elected in politics, promoted at work, or succeeded in business, is because they created first in their minds a belief that they could make it happen. Then that belief was manifested into a reality.

So, your mind sets about creative visualisation, or manifesting a concept, and this is a skill that can be learned. The more you build belief, the easier it is to keep building more belief.

Developing a Strength of Mind

Whenever you create an idea and formulate a plan for its accomplishment, the Universe will test you to see if you're serious by throwing some obstacles or setbacks in your path.

This is why it is not enough to merely be a good ideas person - you also need to develop a strength of mind, a steely determination, or resilience.

Without that resilience it can be easy to lose heart when the setbacks occur. That's when most people falter, allow self-doubt to creep in, and they give up or quit on their dreams, ideas and goals.

Dealing with, or managing change in a world that is constantly changing and evolving, requires that you must develop coping skills to be able to adapt, or you will risk becoming obsolete.

This is why so may people become stressed, and even so overwhelmed that they struggle to function effectively. This can lead to all kinds of mental problems, like anxiety, depression, or even in the extreme cases, self-harm or suicides.

So, realising how important it is to have a positive mindset, how do you build this resilience?

There are many tools you can add to the tool chest called your mind and here are just a few that readily occur to me:

For me, I work on these traits by reading a lot of positive and inspirational books, listening to audio recordings, watching videos and attending workshops or seminars, which I do for myself, but also so that I can leverage my learning time and pass on this distilled wisdom to my clients and the people I encounter throughout my life journey.
