Haul Anchor and Get Moving on Change
One of the things that can hold you back the most is that your ego (the part of the mind who’s job it is to protect you and keep you safe) will replay your past experiences, especially your setbacks and mistakes, just so it can stop you from taking unnecessary risks in your future. E.g. ‘Don’t do that thing. You know when you did that thing last time, you messed it up and you made yourself look like a drongo! So, play it safe, let someone else put their hand up. You don’t need this drama. Besides, you know you’re not that smart, don’t you!’
Does that ring any bells for you?
Good News – Your Past Does Not Have to Decide Your Future
Isn’t that an exciting revelation! Sure, you can learn from your past, and that’s clearly a smart thing to do. But don’t let your past paralyse you with indecision and fear.
So what if you messed up – we all do, and often, but we’re human. That’s what it is to be human.
But consider this, if you haven’t messed anything up, maybe that means you’re not trying hard enough!
Staying safe is fine, especially in this unusual era, but it’s not where the excitement is; it’s not where the greatest change occurs. That, my friend mostly can be found in that space outside your comfort zone.
You see, ‘new’ means ‘unfamiliar’, which is code for ‘might be risky or even dangerous’. We’re still cavemen and cave wenches in our DNA, you know – ‘hunters and collectors’ and no, I don’t mean the rock band!
We don’t like leaving the safety of the tribe sitting around the hearth to venture outside the cave because there may be monsters out there. Well, we all know that monsters are mostly imaginary! We also know that imagination is our greatest gift. We know that we have the power to create the future we want, in our mind first, before we even start doing it.
So, haul anchor, set your sails in a new direction and let’s get started on your journey to success, whatever that means for you. Glean what you can from past experience, but don’t let it keep you in fear.
If you need any help with that whole notion, feel free to get in touch with me for a free, initial chat, and we’ll see if I can help you move forwards.
