How Good Are You at Influencing Lives?

A father and his little girl were walking along a beach together one day, enjoying each other’s company.

At the water’s edge, the sand was covered with small starfish who had been washed up in the surf. Unfortunately, they were doomed to dry out and perish in the heat of the glaring sunshine.

“Why are those starfish there, Daddy?” she asked, innocently.

The father explained  the imminent plight of the beautiful sea creatures.

“That’s really sad!” said the little girl.

Without hesitation, the child began to pick up the starfish, one by one and threw them as far as she could back into the sea.

“Why are you doing that, honey?” asked the Dad.

“I’m trying to give them another chance to live, Daddy.” answered the girl.

“But honey..” he said, “There’s too many of them to save. You can’t possibly make a difference.”

She turned to her father with a smile as she threw another into the surf,

“Well it sure made a difference to that one!”

The moral of the story: Sometimes it seems like we are wasting our time and trying to turn back the tides of life’s challenges.

Nevertheless, each one of us can make a difference, in our own special way, just by doing what we can. We can touch peoples’ lives in what might be a small way to us, but it could make a big difference to them.
