One of the media’s favourite labels for people who achieve greatness is to call them ‘overnight successes’.
In most cases this is a long way from the truth.
I love reading biographies because you find that almost all of these people whom we adore, admire or call our ‘heroes’ started as ordinary people with extraordinary dreams. Furthermore, they focussed on those dreams, set goals, worked hard and overcame obstacles that would have made lesser people simply give up.
Here are just a few examples:
The Beatles played really long shifts in crummy pubs in Hamburg, with bottles flying past them, til their fingers were almost bleeding, before they came back to Liverpool, announced as the Band from Germany.
They could have given up easily, but as John Lennon is believed to have stated, they wanted to be the biggest band in the world.
They certainly achieved that in their day!
John Travolta worked hard for many years as a young actor and dancer before he achieved early success in New York musicals.
He then had to move to LA to earn his place on TV shows. Then came movie success with ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and ‘Grease’.
Alas, personal tragedy consumed him when his partner, Diana Hyland died after a battle with cancer. He disappeared into the Hollywood wilderness, but when he got his chance to star in Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’, the rest is history.
Craig Johnston was a young Australian kid who wanted to be a professional soccer player and had a dream to play for his idols at Liverpool. At the age of six he nearly lost a leg through illness.
At 14, he wrote to four English Clubs before Middlesborough gave him a trial and his parents backed him by selling their house to fund his ticket to England. Sadly he was rejected. He was told to go home and that he was too small to ever be a soccer star. He used to practice kicking a ball against the wall relentlessly to hone his skills.
After a brief spell back in Australia, he returned to Middlesborough and gained another trial. He impressed and eventually earned his place in the Middlesborough first team at the age of 17.
He later joined Liverpool , playing 271 times, even scoring for them in an F.A. Cup Final, the ultimate accolade in English football. He retired early to nurse his sister who was very sick back home.
History is also littered with those gave up just before reaching the goal – they did a lot of the hard work, but just lacked that last bit of extra self-belief and determination to see it through to the result.
So it all starts with a dream and a commitment to make it come true.
One of the best ways to start is to do what I did and get away. Travel and connect with Nature and you can clear your head, figure out what you really want and ‘why’, then work out the ‘how’ afterwards.
My love of travel and tourism has taken my life down a fantastic path, and I now help people find amazing holiday breaks that can recharge the batteries and refocus the soul.
If you would like to know how you too can visit 5 star resorts for as little as 1 star prices, then fill in the contact form and I’ll get back to you. It will cost you nothing to have a no obligation look.
Alternatively, if the only thing stopping you is a lack of money, I may be able to help there too. I have found a fantastic home based business opportunity. As above, if you want to know how you too can do that, from anywhere in the world, contact me, Tony Inman and I’ll help if I can.
Until the next time, “Make Good Things Happen!”
